K R E T A | Sfinari, 1994

In 1994 I lived in a small village on the west coast of Crete. There I found an old tavern situated directly on the beach. It burned seven years brfore and it attracted me for it's abandoned character and the tremendous beauty of it's setting. I worked on it for three months, painting on the remaining walls with paint I fabricated myself. From my long walks in the sourrounding I brought back red earth that I mixed with olive oil bought from the local refinery. I that way I obtained a red paste I used as paint. Images, related to my experience of the place, natural and human, grew on the walls. This work was not inteded to last, the point was to work with the present in relation to the very moment.
